Organized in 1962 and Federated 1963 as the Dogwood Circle of St. Augustine Garden Club.
There is a legend that at the time of the Crucifixion, the Dogwood had been the size of an oak. So firm and strong that it was chosen as the timber for the cross. Jesus said, “Because of your regret and pity for my suffering, never again shall the Dogwood tree grow large. Henceforth, it shall be slender, bent and twisted, and it blooms shall be in the form of a cross”.
