Organized in 1957 as the Poinsettia Circle of St. Augustine Garden Club.

The Poinsettia was named after Dr. Joel Roberts Poinsett of Plantersville, South Carolina. After serving as United States Ambassador to Mexico, Dr. Poinsett brought this scarlet Central American plant to the south where it flourished.
